LED lighting: 10 tips for safe use

led lighting

LED, economical, efficient and environmentally friendly, is increasingly used for both lighting (bulbs) and our screens, and we spend more and more time exposed to artificial light, in front of our computers and smartphones in particular. What should you watch out for?

There is evidence that light, especially "blue" LED light, can affect the biological clock, especially when used in the evening. In addition, it can be harmful to the eyes, even if this risk is very limited.

• 1 ° -The artificial light at night is detrimental to a good sleep and night mood. It can disrupt the biological clock of our body. Therefore, it is advisable to sleep in a room plunged into darkness (including without standby light of electrical appliances) and not to use electronic devices before going to sleep.

• 2 ° -Only purchase devices with the CE marking on the packaging, as this means that they meet the European safety requirements, particularly with regard to eye injuries. Indoors, prefer LED lamps at risk 0. They will not cause eye damage, even if you fix them. Most of the lamps for private use are in this category. You can also use 1 risk bulbs, but without fixing them. Do not use risk ampoules 3 and 4. The risk group is indicated on the packaging.

• 3 ° - Place the LED bulb so that you are always at least 20 cm away from it. Closer, you could damage your eyes by fixing it too long.

• 4 ° -Avoid as much as possible to fix a car or bike headlamp lamp, flashlight or other. LED light contains a relatively high amount of blue, which can be harmful to the eyes.

• 5 ° - For the interior, prefer the "warm" white light (around 3000 Kelvin), especially in places where you relax before going to bed. The "cold" white LED (over 4000 Kelvin) produces more blue light, which can disrupt sleep and the biological clock. The colour temperature is on the packaging.

• 6 ° - Also prefer warm white for places where children are often.

• 7 ° -For places where (daytime) a bright light is needed, for example, the office, prefer a "cold" light lamp with a high colour temperature (over 4000 Kelvin), which improves alertness and concentration.

• 8 ° - Some LED lights show the bulb, which can lead to eye fatigue. Place them where possible so as not to see them.

• 9 ° - Some LED lamps and LED light fixtures can (sometimes without being noticed) blinking weaker. It's not dangerous, but it can be tiring and cause headaches. You can check it with a digital camera or a smartphone: if the image that appears there is scratched, it is that the LED flashes.

• 10 ° -Some groups of people are more sensitive than others to the effects of light (blue). LED lamps with a lot of blue light (over 4000 Kelvin) can be dangerous for them.
